Golden Thread Gallery

Mrs Szlachta's P6 have just completed their Great Art Quest! What a journey it has been! It all started back in November when we went to The Golden Thread Gallery for the first time to look at some art and to ... eat sausage rolls. On the way we've created some collages and poems and on Wednesday 15th March we visited the gallery again to celebrate the children's work and to admire it framed and displayed in the gallery. We've loved the experience!

The Golden Thread Gallery Visit

Mrs Szlachta's P6 are taking part in the Great Art Quest project organised by Children and the Arts. The project will involve cooperating with visual artists and storytellers, as well as other schools, to create collages and poetry to be displayed in The Golden Thread Gallery in Little Patrick Street alongside the artwork of a renown Northern Irish collage artist Sean Hillen. On Wednesday, 9th November the class visited the gallery to familiarise themselves with the gallery and the artists. They had an opportunity to react to some modern art as well as the collages created by some of the teachers taking part in the project.

Pirates and Mermaids Day

On Thursday before the Halloween break both P6 classes had Pirates and Mermaids Day to finish off their Seas and Oceans topic in style. There were some fabulous costumes, including some excellent homemade ones. Throughout the day P6 completed a range of Seas and Oceans related activities. These included sampling of sea food, of which there were mixed reviews. They sang songs, played battleships and read stories about pirates in Ireland. It was a fantastic day.

Armagh Rhymers

Both Primary 6 classes had an exciting visit at the end of January from one of Europe's most celebrated folk theatre ensembles, The Armagh Rhymers. Both classes collaboratively created a play with the Rhymers and then performed it for all of Key stage 2. It was a huge success and enjoyed by all! Check out some pictures from the event below.

World Book Week

For World Book Week, Miss McMillan's Primary 6 class made storybooks for Miss McDowell's Primary 1 class. They created a wide range of books including, animal themed books, ABC books and books about their hobbies. They also used lots of arty materials to make their books touch and feel. P6 then read their books to the P1s and both classes had a wonderful time! Check out the pictures below to see how they got on...

P6 Trip to the Planetarium

On 25th May, Mrs Szlachta's P6 went to visit the Planetarium in Armagh. The trip was part of our partnership programme with Glencraig Integrated PS. Our children had an opportunity to meet their Glencraig friends, work together on making rockets and they even got a chance to launch their spacecrafts! It was a fantastic day!

P6 trip to the Ulster Folk Museum
