  1. Integrated Week

Integrated Week

Monday 3rd March - 7th March 2014 was Integrated Week

This was very special in Hazelwood and we celebrated in style, with lots of activities going on.

Our theme this year was Building Bridges

The message constantly highlightered throughout the week is the importance of reaching out, of being part of a community and of reminding us all as adults and children alike that we have a very important role to play.  Perhaps if all of us do one small thing

We made paper links as individuals expressinghwhat Integration means to us - then we joined them all together to make a hugh chain to symbolise our links with each other in this community as a school and as a focus for our neighbours in this area.

We were joined by Frazer Agnew, the Major of Newtownabbey, along with the staff and children of several of our local schools to enjoy the drumming and dance experience of Releasing Rhythms.

Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle joined us at assembly to share the highs and lows of his job in Stormont - our local parliament.  He was most impressed by the children, their behaviour, their sensible questions and suggestions for the future.

Pancake Tuesday saw many parents joining us to make pancakes and we welcomed the residents of the local day centre in Newington to enjoy our special recipes!  They were amazing and engaged with our children and staff with ease and a lively sense of fun.  They even got their photo taken in our fun photo booth with sombreros and guitars thouroughly enjoying the 'craic'.
