Parent Success- Congratulations to 9 of our parents who received their Essential Skills Level 2 qualification in ICT- well done!
Bank of Ireland- P7s have been learning all about finance and looking after your money. Employees from Glengormley Bank of Ireland have been teaching the classes about savings, using ATMs, credit cards and how a bank works.
New lodge Arts- P5 were very lucky to be chosen to make wonderful hallowe'en lanterns thanks to the New Lodge Arts group. The children really enjoyed making them and are looking forward to using them at a special Lantern Parade at the Gasworks on Tuesday 30th October at 7pm. All welcome!
Book Week -We have just celebrated our 'Roald Dahl' Book Week. Activities throughout the week included a special visit from storyteller Patrick Ryan, book swaps, cover designs, and story writing. The highlight of the week was most certainly our Dahilicious Dress-Up day.
P7 Footballers- 10 lucky P7's got the chance of a lifetime on Friday 28th September to play at Windsor Park! The boys played during half time at the Linfield v Lisburn Distillery match. Despite a 2-0 defeat against St.Bride's, the boys were ecstatic at getting the VIP treatment, goodie bags and even photos with the League Title, and Irish Cups.
Be on Time week - The week beginning Mnday 28th January sees our 'Be on Time' week commence. We will be highlighting to both children and parents the importance of getting to school for 9.00am. Did you know that 80% attendence for 5 years running means you will have missed a full year of school!.
School CD- Our school CD "Together we Sing" is now available to buy at the office. A great variety of songs involving every child from Nursery- P7. Please support the school by buying one. A real bargain at only £5!
Christmas cheer- All parents are welcome to come along to our Christmas cheer and CD launch on Wednesday 12th December 2.00-3.30.
Children in Need- A big well done to the Nursery on raising £618.45 for BBC Children in Need. The nursery went Pudsey mad for the day dressing in their pyjamas and asking the whole school to guess the age of Pudsey. He was 27!!!
Integrated Week 2013
Integrated week -Hazelwood marked NICIE’s first “International Integrated Week” in style by learning about countries across the world- taking a step in others' shoes, learning about traditions, food, facts, daily life and cultures. We finished off a busy week with a special International Food Fayre with a spectacular array of culture, food, costume on display.
Belfast Old Firm Alliance- Primary 5 have been taking part in this ten week programme, which culminated in a large event in the Ozone with over 100 children taking part. The programme provides excellent opportunities for children to lead a healthier lifestyle while addressing issues such as sectarianism and community safety.
Hallowe'en Party- Many thanks to our PTA and parent volunteers for putting on a magnificent party for around 350 pupils and parents. The disco, hotdogs, spot prizes and fancy dress was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Charity cheque- A huge thank you to all our pupils and parents in their recent fundraising. The huge sum of £1937 (and growing) was handed over to the charity SAM (Struggle Against Muscular Dystrophy) at our recent Harvest Assembly.

Police and Fire games launch
Hazelwood were thrilled to launch the first school roadshow in a bid to get youngsters fired up for the games this August. Look out for Emergency Eddie at a school near you!
We've had a fantastic week learning all about Maths and in particular financial capability. All classes received £10 to spend in various ways. Some of the class ideas included- making buns and selling them for profit, giving £10 to charity, setting up a pizzeria and buying animals in africa. Parents and Grandparents also had a great fun at out 'Mad about Maths'seeing what activities are done in school and how they can be adapted at home. A big thank you to Jonathon Reilly the manager of Bank of Ireland in Glengormley for running our Parent worshop on budgetting and hosting our P7s at the bank.
